In the afternoon of 1 October 2022 some team members of the Besh Barmag Bird Migration Count headed north to search for a satellite-tagged Sociable Lapwing from Kazakhstan. A tagged bird was reported by the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK) very close to their counting station. After some time they found the tagged bird (W13) together with one more bird in the steppes near Shabran. The Sociable Lapwing is a threatened species and the project investigates the winter grounds and stopp-over sites along their migration routes for their protection.
