Over the course of two days, this tour takes you to one of the most iconic mountains of the Greater Caucasus, where we’ll search for regional endemics such as the Caucasian Snowcock, White-winged Redstart, and Caucasian Grouse around the stunning Khinalig and Laza villages.
We will also have the opportunity to spot high-altitude species like the majestic Bearded Vulture, Golden Eagle, Horned Lark, Red-fronted Serin, and the vibrant Red-billed and Alpine Choughs.
Beyond birdwatching, immerse yourself in the authentic charm of mountain village life with an overnight stay at a cozy local guesthouse in Laza village.
On the second day, as we make our way back to Baku, we’ll take a scenic detour to explore the Candy Cane Mountains in Khizi district—known for their striking striped scenery. Here, we’ll have the chance to spot bird species like Finsch’s Wheatear and Chukar, adding another memorable chapter to this birding adventure.

Tour plan:
Day 1
Start the day with a scenic drive to Khinalig, making stops at prime birdwatching hotspots like Beshbarmag, a famous Wallcreeper site, and Gudialchay Canyon, known for vultures. After a traditional lunch in Khinalig, hop into a UAZ 4×4 for an exciting ride up the slopes of Gizilgaya (2700m), where we’ll look for Caucasian Snowcock, Great Rosefinch, and White-winged Redstart. Return to Khinalig for dinner, then continue the journey to Laza village for an overnight stay in a private house.
Day 2
Start early with birdwatching from the guesthouse yard, followed by a hearty breakfast. Then, drive to a Caucasian Grouse spot for a short hike, where you’ll observe Grouse, Green Warblers, and Mountain Chiffchaff. After lunch, depart for the stunning Candy Cane Mountains in Khizi, known for their striking striped landscape. Here, we’ll search for Finsch’s Wheatear, Isabelline Wheatear, and Chukar. Finally, return to Baku by evening, filled with memories of a spectacular birding adventure.
